It starts with the wooden pegs and extends to the tuning process itself, which is a unique challenge: Even when you’ve technically got it right, the lute might suddenly buzz, or the sound lacks something—something just doesn’t feel right, or… or… or…
In short: a historical lute is not only sensitive to even minor environmental changes, but it also develops a sometimes quirky (and temperamental) “life of its own” ^^.
To help lower the frustration level a bit, I wrote a small tuner set to the historically accurate 415 Hz, designed for tuning an 8-course (15-string) Baroque lute.
The tuner starts as soon as you click on the image of the bard.
